Derek Obermeyer


Derek Obermeyer is the Owner of The Zone Training facilities, and established the first facility in 2005. Derek graduated from Conestoga College with a diploma in Accounting and started his career by gaining experience in the construction industry and as Financial Controller at Rebel Creek Golf Club.

Derek has been involved in local minor hockey for many years, beginning as a player in Kitchener Minor Hockey and as a coach within the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association at the AA and AAA levels for 6 years.

As a player, Derek was drafted by the London Knights of the OHL after playing for the Kitchener Greenshirts in 1996. He started his Jr B career in Guelph before joining his hometown Kitchener Dutchmen, where he was selected as scholastic player of the year in 1999. In 2000 Derek was part of the Cambridge Winterhawks winning the Sutherland Cup as Ontario Jr. B Champions. 

Cindy Eadie


Cindy has an Economics degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and is currently in charge of day-to-day operations at The Zone Training.

She has over 25 years of hockey experience, including 9 years as an elite goaltending coach for numerous goaltenders at the AAA, PWHL, CIS, and NCAA levels. During her career as a goaltender, Cindy backstopped Wilfrid Laurier University to a national championship in 2005 and the Brampton Thunder (Canadian Women's Hockey League) to two championships in 2007 and 2008.  Cindy served as the head coach of the K-W Rangers (PWHL) Hockey Club for three seasons (2011-2014).

Cindy was also a member of the Canadian Softball team from 2001-2006, where she competed in a number of international competitions. The most notable of those competitions is the Olympic Games in 2004 (Athens, Greece).

Kyle Sephton


Kyle has 7 years of experience coaching goaltenders are we are thrilled to have him join our staff!  He played his minor hockey in Guelph and trained at the Zone as a young goalie and then moved on to play at the Jr B (St. Mary's & Listowel) and Jr C (Burford Bulldogs) levels.  Kyle is currently attending University of Guelph with a major in Criminal Justice and Public Policy and minor in Sociology.

Rob Hall


Rob played his minor hockey in Guelph at the AAA level until Midget, then he moved on to play 2 years of Jr. B in Guelph as well.  He has coached minor hockey teams since 2013 and the fundamentals and rep levels.  Rob has also taught a variety of camps (March break and Tryout prep camps A through AAA) prior to joining the staff at The Zone.  His passion for development training centers on SKATING! He believes power-skating and proper technical development are core elements to becoming a sound skater and successful hockey player.

Rob works full-tim as an Operations Manager for a granite and quartz manufacture of kitchen and bathroom countertops and vanities. He holds a professional designation as a CCLP (Certified Logistics Professional) and love the planning and coordination side of Operations and Supply Chain management.

Sam Natale

Head Instructor

Sam played minor hockey at the AAA level in Guelph and moved on to play Jr C in Fergus (half a season), 2 years with Guelph Hurricanes (Jr.B) and 5 games with the Guelph Storm (OHL).  He is currently attending University of Guelph for Human Kinetics.

Matt Burns

Head Instructor

Matt played many years of minor hockey at the AAA level before moving on to play Jr. A for the Smiths Falls Bears in the CCHL. He has taught programs, private lessons and camps for over two years prior to joining the staff at The Zone and he has been with us since October of 2017.  Matt is a full-tim a Kinesiologist at the Grand River Community Health Centre in Brantford.

Chris Leveille

Head Instructor

Chris was born and raised in Guelph and played for the Guelph Dominators Jr.B Team while he also served as an AP for the Guelph Storm. He went on to play 10 seasons of professional hockey -- most recently with the Brampton Beast in the ECHL, affiliate of the Ottawa Senators. Chris has played in 6 different leagues over the course of his career: ACH, FHL, SPHL, ECHL, AIHL, AHL. He has also been a player/coach on two different professional hockey teams!

Anthony Mota

Head Instructor

Anthony grew up in Guelph and played his rep hockey with the GMHA and the Halton Hills Hurricanes.  He played four seasons at the Junior B level in Guelph and he is currently playing Junior A in the OJHL.  Anthony has been teaching programs and private lessons at The Zone since 2016.  He is interested in beginning a career as a certified electrician and he would love to develop his coaching resume further with a team at the Junior level!
